It’s Unsexy Naked Time. Here’s What We’re Reading This Week.

Here is the 2nd installment of Naked News Roundup – a weekly compilation of posts we like from around the net.
– Here’s of stories coming out about the forthcoming premiere of The Naked Village. That is a documentary about Britain’s only nude village, called Spielplatz. Or “secret village,” as that article calls it. I believe being a “secret” is one of the club’s troubles. We will not know how positive it is for naturism until it airs, but so far, I’m not that impressed with the promo material. [Mirror]
– There are tons an inside look at Fraternity Snoqualmie Family Nudist Park in Washington from a pic journalist. A photo slideshow features the park, along with pictures from their annual Bare Buns Fun Run.
It airs on Thursday, December 11 on More4. Hopefully it’ll be published online for everyone to see it.
Body Image
– “Everyone is transformed.” It is become common knowledge that versions in ads and magazines receive a heavy dose of Photoshop. But what about mainstream films? Turns out artists spend an unbelievable period of time retouching actors’ faces and bodies in movie scenes. This goes way beyond make-up and lighting. These artists are going frame by frame and erasing wrinkles, belly fat, blemishes, etc. They’ll even take an actor’s head and set it on a more muscular body! It’s known as “beauty work.” Apparently this has been quite hush hush, but Mashable eventually got some artists and film execs to open up about it.
– I had to share this astute article about the newest fear-mongering over childhood obesity. The NHS is understood to distort and exaggerate numbers that have to do with fatness and obesity. The writer points out that “fat” and “heavy” categories tend to be united to inflate data and encourage their “panic-fuelled agenda.” Then there’s the fact the system used to diagnose obesity (BMI) is totally flawed, and NHS declares this.
My personal favorite line from the post: “subsequently officials wonder why so many children have – it is because you keep telling them they are fat, you morons.” [Telegraph]
– Here’s a mom with a positive attitude about her and her children being nude around each other. She writes, “Nudity is wholesome and very natural and growing up unashamed to be seen nude with all your bodily imperfections raises uninhibited kids who have a realistic body image.” Yes! [One Woman’s Perspective]
– Great news Coalition Against Censorship (NCAC) just came out with a list of 24 prominent works of art that faced censorship this previous year. They recognize that nudes are still on censorship’s most-wanted list, but they were not focused on nudity. Instead it’s meant to be a compilation of art that inspired “critical thought, impassioned emotion, and tides of offense.” [NCAC site]
– The National for those interested in bare modeling or practicing their life drawing skills – “Get Drawn, Get Bare” is a global project that invites the public to pose naked for popup life drawing courses. This post is written in the view of among the female models and she talks about the body-favorable facet of the encounter. [BBC]
Megumi Igarashi’s Amazing Vagina Kayak
– One of the artists in NCAC’s female cartoonists talk about their artwork and drawing naked girls / bodies. Just as in other mainstream media, women’s bodies happen to be very badly represented in the graphic novel industry. They’re regularly hypersexualized and exhibited as ornamentation. These artists are pushing their way through a male dominated sector and drawing the bodies they would like to see in the comic book medium. [Buzzfeed]
– We Are loving this: 23 list, Megumi Igarashi, has recently made the news because she got arrested again. been making 3D printed artwork modeled after her own vulva, such as this kayak pictured previously. She was lately arrested for disseminating three dimensional “obscene data” for some kind of boat job. She says, “I don’t believe my vagina is anything obscene.” – It’s not, Megumi! [The Guardian]
Pop Culture
With all the celebs joyfully expose naked lately, will America eventually need to let go of its puritanism around nudity? [Yahoo]
– a brand new music video from College Humor: “Unsexy Naked Time.” An antithesis to the typical hot-naked music video. A boyfriend / girlfriend couple sing a song about how they like to hang out nude at home and do “unsexy” things, like eat takeout, watch TV, clean, and take each other’s zits (ew). The movie is silly and entertaining and reveals that naked time does not have to be hot time. 😉
The opening lyrics:
We’ve been going out for awhile
We been going out in style

But I can not wait to get you home and take off all your clothing
And merely not do shit
I wanna get nude for the hell of it
Let’s lose my shirt, your skirt, and atmosphere our genitals out
I wanna get you naked and order kung pao
